Rapid Expansion

In a step towards our quest to contribute 50% of India’s domestic oil & gas production, Cairn Oil & Gas has been awarded 41 new exploration blocks under Open Acreage Licencing Policy (OALP). The blocks are spread across seven states – Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Tripura, Rajasthan, Maharashtra and Gujarat  place Cairn among the largest exploration startups in the world. A signing ceremony was held on October 1, 2018 in the presence of Shri Dhramendra Pradhan, Hon’ble Minister of Petroleum & Natural Gas, and Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, Mr Anil Agarwal, Chairman, Vedanta Resources , Mr Sudhir Mathur, CEO, Cairn Oil & Gas, and host of other dignitaries. Speaking on the development, Anil Agarwal, Executive Chairman, Vedanta PLC, said  “We congratulate the government for their progressive vision to develop this national asset, and appreciate the faith they have reposed in us. We are committed to producing 50% of India’s crude, and the new explorations will take us closer to that vision. India has great potential and this is a huge enabler to boost domestic production to lead the nation towards energy security”.

CERAWeek 2018

New Delhi, NCR

The 2nd edition of India Energy Forum, CERAWeek was organized from October 14-16, 2018. With the theme ‘India’s Energy Transition : Evolution or Revolution? ‘, the three day conference brought together over 900 participants from 15 countries for meaningful dialogue and learning. Cairn Oil & Gas was one of the sponsors and actively participated in the Forum. Chairman Mr Anil Agarwal was one of the key participants in the Prime Minister’s interaction with global oil & gas leaders. Mr Sudhir Mathur, CEO, Cairn Oil & Gas was a panelist for ‘Private/Public Partnerships to Increase Energy Investment in India’ session. During the session he shared his perspective and examples on how Cairn has partnered with Government and various other stakeholders in contributing towards the energy security of the nation. Key media interactions were held with leading business newspapers and oil & gas magazines on the sidelines of the event.


Excellence in Operations

MBA Fields, Rajasthan

Cairn Oil & Gas, MBA (Mangala, Bhagyam, Aishwariya) operation has been recognized as ‘Noteworthy Water Efficient Unit’, ‘within the fence category’ during ‘National Award for Excellence in Water Management 2018’ by Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) on October 5, 2018 at Hotel Hyatt Regency, New Delhi. The award was presented by Mr UP Singh, Secretary, IAS, Ministry of Water Resource, River Development & Ganga Rejuvenation Govt. of India and Mr Rajiv Ranjan Mishra, Director General, National Mission for Clean Ganga, Ministry of Water Resource & River Development & Ganga Rejuvenation Govt. of India. Our MBA operations has witnessed 98.4% re-use of produced water towards re-injection into the reservoir for pressure maintenance and sustenance of hydrocarbon extraction. In addition, many other water conservation initiatives were implemented like reject water treatment & recycling system, no fresh water usage for operation, solar concentrator for enhance evaporation, air cooled condensers, sewage treatment plant, rain water harvesting cum-recharge, drip irrigation system for greenbelt maintenance, and sourcing of deep saline water for injection, utility & domestic purposes.

Festive Fervor

The spirit of togetherness is a key element which is a binding force for employees who live and work at site locations. Following the objective of bringing the site families closer, Wellness Committee at Bhagyam and MPT organised a ‘Garba’ night on the occasion of Navratri, at their respective site locations.  Religious fervor combined with the zeal and festive sprit filled the evening for a perfect mood of celebration.


New Beginning

RGT, Barmer

October 11, 2018 saw a new beginning in the Rajasthan gas business. Custody Transfer Metering(CTM) skid was inaugurated by Jacob Mathew, President RJ Gas Production SBU for the through new 18” GIGL Gas Pipe Line of Barmer-Pali-Palanpur section. New GIGL pipe line also commissioned by GIGL team. With the commissioning of above facilities, Raageshwari Gas Terminal (RGT) overcomes the major bottleneck of sales gas pipeline size limitation and open up the avenue to maximize the gas sales.

Excellence & Pride

Bhogat, Gujarat

Bhogat facility successfully and safely completed 50th cargo export operation on October 16,2018. The cargo export by MT DESH PREM sailed with 6,21,900 Sbbl crude oil from Bhogat SPM for MRPL . As on October 16, 2018 we have exported ~28.26 million SBBLS of crude oil from our facility. To mark this landmark occasion, a get-together of employees along with families was organised at Bhogat terminal. The celebrations included a cultural evening along with a sumptuous dinner.  R. Kannan, Head – SBU operations RJ,  Sanjay Sharma, GM - Midstream Pipeline Operations and  Ashish Kumar Gupta, FGM- Midstream Pipeline Operations congratulated all the employees, their families  and associates for their dedication and hard work for achieving this milestone.

Knowledge Treasure

On  September 27, 2018, Veda library, IT & Innovation organized an event “Build Your Knowledge Treasure: Pick-Up Drive for Magazines and Journals” to reuse the information. Back issues were made available for library patrons. Consequently, library got the overwhelming response from the employee as they participated and collected magazines and journals of own interest to enthusiastically build their knowledge treasure.

Science Fair

Viramgam, Ahmedabad

In order to stimulate creativity, ingenuity and the attitude for innovation in science and mathematics, National Curriculum Framework (NCF-2005) emphasizes on activities, experiments, technological modules etc. Cairn participated in 02 block level Science Fairs at Block Resource Bhawan Viramgam & Vasna Government Primary School, Mandal Ahmedabad. Mr Jayesh Bhai Patel, President Teachers Association - Viramgam, Mr Molik Bhai, Block Resource Coordinator, Mr Daya Bhai, Ahmedabad District and Mr. Shivang Vora from Pipeline Operations, Cairn attended the event & motivated the young students during the opening ceremony.Cairn presented mementos & certificates to all participants and teaching staff from 105 schools. A total of 550 students visited the exhibition along with 122 teachers from the respective schools.


Moment of Pride

It was a matter of pride that all three para athletes supported by Cairn Oil & Gas represented India in Asian Para Games held in Jakarta from October 6-13, 2018. The pride was further enhanced by Sundar Singh Gurjar winning silver medal in Javelin Throw and bronze medal in discus throw while Sandeep Maan contributed by winning bronze medal in 400 m. Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Mr  Narendra Modi, felicitated all the medal winners and individually complimented and tweeted about each of them.

No Plastic Campaign

Barmer, Rajasthan

Recent data shows that ~ 100 grams of plastic waste is generated daily per household in Barmer city. An accumulation of all these plastic and polythene bags leads to blockage of the drainage system creating unhygienic environment in parts of the city. To stop the use of polythene bags and bring a behavioral change, Cairn Oil & Gas in collaboration with Municipal Council, Barmer undertook an initiative to distribute thirty thousand (30,000) high quality recyclable bags to the residents of Barmer City (one bag to each household). These bags, having 20 KG weight carrying capacity, acts as a useful alternative to polythene since they are reusable, washable and are free of any toxic material.The initiative was launched by District Collector, Barmer and Commissioner Municipal Council in the presence of District Forest Officer, community leaders and other district officials.


Skilling India

Barmer, Rajasthan

Cairn Enterprise Centre (CEC), Barmer is at the forefront of imparting skill based training to the youth in the region. One such story is about Raidan who hails from Bamer. After reading about CEC in local newspapers he enrolled himself for a ‘Computer Operator’ course. "During the training I learnt many things pertaining to my trade; post my training, I joined Shree Ram Enterprises as a Supervisor, where I earn Rs. 9000 per month. Then, with the help of CEC and IL&FS, Barmer, I switched to Hubert Ebner, as a VTS Monitor, on contract basis, where I earned Rs. 13000/- month. Post the completion of the fifteen-month-contract, I decided to start my own net banking shop at City Centre, Barmer. Now, I earn Rs. 18000/- to 20,000/- per month," says Raidan. Today, he says his family is proud of his achievements, and he, in turn, credits CEC and IL&FS, Barmer for the success he has achieved.


Special Day for Girl Child

Viramgam, Ahmedabad

Since 2012, 11th October of every year is observed as International Day of Girl Child. The platform supports more opportunity for girls and increases awareness of gender inequality faced by girls worldwide. The celebration of the day also "reflects the successful emergence of girls and young women as a distinct cohort in development of policy, programming, campaigning and research." This year’s theme was With Her: A Skilled Girl Force. This special day was celebrated in 3 locations around our pipeline villages – Vajegadh village from Banaskantha District, Valewada village from Surendranagar District and at Tripada Gurukulam School near AGI 18. In total, 92 students & 23 community members attended & participated in the sessions. A drawing, speech & essay writing competition on the theme, “Day of the Girl Child” was organized for the students. Winners were presented with mementos and all participants with appreciation certificates.Mr. Hiren Bhai Joshi Director Tripada Gurukulam praised CSR initiatives of Cairn Oil & Gas and efforts on conducting such development programs.


Enhancing Knowledge

Barmer, Rajasthan

One of the many initiatives adopted under “Barmer Unnati” program was to train 50 farmers demonstrating high performing, climate proof pulse crops like Moong, Moth, Guar; and cereal crop, Bajara, which are exclusively developed by Central Arid Zone Research Institute, Jodhpur. A total of 10 demonstrations were undertaken with guidance from one of India’s most renowned pulse crop breeders, Dr. D Kumar.The demonstrations has revealed positive results and have proven that the transfer of technology from lab to land will be instrumental in the future to tide over such climatic shifts. An agri exhibition “Krishi Pradarshini”  was held on September 25, 2018  in Kau Khera village of Barmer to demonstrate our success and deliberate with farmers, scientists and other stakeholders to help develop advanced agricultural practices to sustain the economy and ecology of Barmer.. The exhibition saw active participation by 72 enthusiastic farmers to learn techniques to grow pulse crop in drought.


Health Camp

Viramdad, Gujarat

Cairn Oil & Gas in association with Help Age India organised a Mega Community Health Check-up & Blood Donation Camp on September 16, 2018 at Government Primary School, Viramdad village near AGI-35 in Salaya Bhogat pipeline section. A pipeline safety awareness program was also conducted alongside This mega health camp was inaugurated by Mr. Basavraj Girimath – DGM, Bhogat Terminal, Cairn Oil & Gas along with key officials from Government Primary School, PRIs & Sarpanchs from various villages. Mr. Basavraj interacted with doctors, staff and community representatives and shared details of the development activities carried out by the company in area of SBPL. Mr Vikarambhai Madam, MLA Khambaliya also visited the camp and interacted with doctors, staff & village community/villagers. This will motivate other Gram Panchayats also to undertake similar initiatives for the benefit of villagers’ health. In all 325 community members benefitted & received health check-up services in the camps.


Our Success Stories

Barmer, Rajasthan

Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) conducted CII National Award for Excellence in Water Management – Beyond the Fence. The objective of the award is to recognize the leadership in implementing water and watershed management projects with the involvement of public / private agencies and community. It was a matter of pride that besides receiving the Certificate of Appreciation, four case studies of our project ‘Barmer Unnati’ were also selected and published in the CII brochure which is circulated widely in the industry.


Peaceful Session

CCOE, Jodhpur

In a rapidly changing life where studying, working, and technology are constantly challenging each other, young people have little time to consider for their own peace and well-being. Youth Peace Foundation (YPF) campaign is a commitment towards building a culture of humanity and peace. An interactive session with YPF was organized at Cairn Centre Of Excellence (CCoE) on October 10, 2018 for the young boys who are undergoing skill training at the campus. The audience were also introduced to the teachings of Mr Prem Pal Singh Rawat, an Indian American considered as a Global Peace Ambassador, which included a meditation practice called “Knowledge” and peace education based on the discovery of personal resources such as inner strength, choice, appreciation and hope.


Run for a Cause

Jaipur, Rajasthan

Cairn Oil & Gas is the Title Partner of Cairn Pink City Half Marathon (CPCHM) scheduled to be held on Dec 2018 in Jaipur. It is a matter of pride that the registrations for this “runforacause” from Vedanta have crossed more than 500 registrations. CPCHM, Jaipur is contributing 1 meal for a child on every registration to Akshay Patra Foundation. Initiatives like Golden Triangle Cyclothon Run - Three bicycle riders cycled from Jaipur to Agra and Delhi covering 750 km connecting the Golden Triangle of 3 cities and spreading the messages of “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao” and “Swacch Bharat Abhiyan” and free training camps being organized in the Central Park & special camps organized for the corporates to spread social message attached to this cause.


Special Diwali

This year our customized Diwali hampers are curated by the superbly creative and talented students of Tamana NGO. ~4800 Diwali hampers have been hand crafted by the differently abled students of the NGO in Delhi during August and September’18. Cairn supports skill development programs for these students at Tamana NGO.  The gift hampers contain products like cookies, hand-crafted diyas, hand-crafted earthen Ganeshji, sublimation printing on shawls, scarves, pocket squares, table mats and table runners, hand-made paper products and coasters which are made by Tamana’s differently abled skilled students from trainable group. All contents of the gift hampers including nutri seed mix, dried herbs, fruit pack and cumin use classical elements such as Bhumi (earth), Jala (water), Agni (fire), Vayu (air) and Vyom (space). We believe in the power of five elements that abound in nature.


Building Workforce

S’Yanam, Andhra Pradesh

A mega job mela was organized by Cairn Ravva CSR team in collaboration with Kaushal Godavari, a flagship initiative of East Godavari district whose vision is to turn the Godavari region into a hub of skilled manpower and entrepreneurship, at Amalapuram on October 6,2018. Out of the ~2500 unemployed youth belonging to the surrounding areas, 900 received job offers. Special mobilization drives, resume building activities, and interview preparation sessions were conducted exclusively for 72 S.Yanam youth resulting in 15 of them getting selected for the jobs.



Great Managers Award

Vedanta has featured among the top 24 companies in India in The Economic Times Great Manager Awards. The Awards recognizes leadership and great managers across approximately 100 companies vying for this premier recognition. Cairn Oil & Gas and Vedanta Limited, Jharsugudha were conferred with Companies with Great managers award. 7 of our managers from our different business units were named among the country’s top 50 Great Managers. India’s leading organizations including Pepsico, Phillips, and Axis bank to name a few also competed for this one of the most coveted recognition in India to identify the strong management at the helm.

Restoring Art

Vedanta Limited, Lanjigarh in an effort to recuperate the dying Saura art form, initiated Tribal Painting Training Academy where the indigenous art form is being moulded for a global market. The Saura art of Odisha is one of the important indigenous painting of the eastern zone. They were painted on the walls of mud houses with figures of human beings, sun, moon, elephants, horses and the like, depicting folk tales and our country’s rich heritage.

The academy started with 14 girls initially and is now training 32 tribal girls and women who will become successful artisans earning a regular income at the end of the training. The biggest accomplishment for the girls is that they have started earning before the completion of their training. The group’s first project earned them an amount of INR 6000/- during their training period wherein they infused modern art with traditional Saura art on the walls of Niyamgiri Vedanta Nagar colony. This project has not only made their colony colourful but also added colour to the artisans’ life.

Health Awareness

A “Breast Cancer Awareness” session was organised at Vedanta Delhi office for all women colleagues on 29 October 2018. The session was led by Dr Harleen Kaur, associated with Max Institute of Cancer Care, Delhi who explained on the symptoms, prevention, early screening and cure of the disease. ‘Breast Cancer Awareness’ month is an annual international health campaign organized by major breast cancer charities every October to increase awareness of the disease and to raise funds for research into its cause, prevention, diagnosis, treatment and cure.

Safety Recognition

Vedanta Sesa Goa Iron Ore – Value Added Business was awarded the prestigious “Gomant Sarvocha Suraksha Puraskar” at the 6th Green Triangle Safety awards. The Green Triangle Safety awards are organized by Green Triangle Society in association with the Inspectorate of Factories and Boilers and recognize exemplary performance by business units in maintaining consistent and meritorious Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) performance.

Promoting Sports

Vedanta Limited, Jharsugusha organized Maa Samaleswari Football Tournament which was held in R & R Colony supported by Vedanta from October 18-22 2018. A total of 32 teams from 2 districts, Jharsuguda and Sambalpur participated in the event. Honourable MLA, Jharsuguda Shri Naba Kishore Das was the guest at the occasion. Around 3000 people gathered over the 5 days to witness the event. Teams Sarasmal and Khaeiradhihi were the finalists. Team Sarasmal won the match scoring 3 against 0. The dignitaries appreciated the efforts taken by Vedanta for organising such an event. This will promote the sports culture among the rural youth and provide them with opportunities to showcase their talents.
