Hunt for Black Gold

Cairn Oil and Gas through its integrated growth partner Schlumberger commenced Marine Site Survey operations in KG offshore block with vessel Coastal Triumph. This survey will acquire suitable geophysical and geotechnical datasets to assess potential shallow drilling hazards and safe deployment of jack-up drilling rig to drill in the proposed drilling locations for the upcoming exploration/appraisal drilling campaign. Equipments deployed for Geophysical survey include multibeam and single beam echo sounders for bathymetric survey, sidescan sonar and magnetometer for seabed imagery and foreign metallic material detection, 2-D Ultra High Resolution (UHR) seismic data for shallow hazard survey down to a depth of approximately 1000meters. Geotechnical investigations include borehole drilling to a depth of atleast 80m at each location for conductor driveability and rig penetration analysis for safe positioning of the rig.

Safety Milestone

On February 09, 2018 Ravva Operations crossed a milestone of 1358 LTI free man-days. This achievement is the collective effort of employees, contract work force and other stakeholders and truly depicts the safety culture at Ravva. It is a coincidence that Ravva surpassed this milestone at the time of an ongoing VSAP audit and it was well appreciated by the auditors as well. This was celebrated by cake cutting ceremony and the Leadership Team appreciated the efforts of one and all.

Safety Mockdrill

Planning and being prepared for an eventuality is an important step in mitigating risk. Towards this direction, a safety mockdrill was conducted at Bhogat Terminal on February 01, 2018. The mock drill was conducted with the help of Special Operations Group (SOG), bomb disposal squad, local crime branch and local police. The highlight of the drill was the active participation of Cairn employees, who followed the instructions as communicated during the awareness session. The drill was well conducted and appreciated by all authorities.

Gender Intelligence & Leadership program

As we move forward on our journey towards contributing to 50% of India’s overall crude production, it is important that we reinforce our commitment towards building a diverse ecosystem. To this direction, Gender Intelligence & Leadership (GIL) program was launched on February 09, 2018. The program will include a series of one day workshops covering over 300 managers and leaders across the organisation to sustain and further build on our capabilities towards reinforcing a diverse and inclusive work culture. The first work workshop was held on the launch day, covered 35 senior leaders from across Cairn locations. Few of the feedbacks:

RGT HSE Campaign

Regular emphasis on safety practices builds an increased awareness and well-rounded safe behaviour amongst employees and contractors. RGT Operations team launched HSE Campaign on ‘Occupational Health Hazards’, ‘H2S Awareness’ and ‘5S Awareness’ on February 01, 2018. RGT focused on workplace health & safety promotions by ensuring the combined efforts of operations team & contractor workers to improve the health and well-being of people at work. The campaign was launched by Krishnamurthy – Installation Manager and was attended by Srikrishna – Head HSSEQS and Subash K Singh - GM Operations (SBU3). While addressing the staff, Srikrishna shared an example of different choices faced by people in face of danger and the need to think before an act in such circumstances. He also emphasised that implementation of 5’s can reduce slip / trips hazards and maintaining a neat and clean workplace will boost moral & high productivity.

Motivational Content

‘If a picture is worth a thousand words, then a video is worth a million’. With this view, Information Management (IM) team organised a motivational and management video screening for employees at Veda – The Library at two locations (Viramgam Gas Terminal (VGT) and Gurgaon). ‘Miracle man’, the true story of iron-willed, self-made person - Morris Goodman was screened at VGT on February 20, 2018. Management movie ‘Twelve Angry Man’ was screened at Gurgaon on January 31, 2018. Both the locations saw encouraging participation and employees expressed for more such motivational movie screenings.

Creating Inspirational Leaders

Our organisation is progressing towards the next phase of growth and support the country in achieving energy self-sufficiency. A number of leaders have been taken on step-up roles to achieve this ambitious vision. Supporting these leaders and setting them for success is a key organisational priority. As part of our effort to groom these next generation of leaders, Cairn recently organised a workshop for Band 2 employees on ‘Executive Presence’. Introduced last year, this program has consistently received excellent feedback from participants. The 2 day program is packed with role plays and activities to help employees build skills around engaging hearts & minds through the art of story-telling, and leveraging tenets of emotional intelligence to influence stakeholders and make things happen.

Yoga for Better Living

Yoga is known for its ability to ease stress and promote relaxation. With the commitment towards improving health and well-being of the people, Raageshwari Gas Terminal (RGT) Wellness Committee organised Yoga training session through renowned Yoga Guru Mr. Arvind Joshi at RGT. The Yoga Guru enlightened the participants on how yogic practices could enhance muscular strength, body flexibility, improve respiratory and cardiovascular function, promote recovery from and treatment of addiction, reduce stress, anxiety, depression, chronic pain, improve sleep patterns, and enhance overall well-being and quality of life. The session was a big success as it has seen participation from employees and contractors in large numbers. Due to the keen interest from participants, the training sessions were also followed by practice sessions in the early mornings and evenings with the Yoga Guru answering to all the queries from the participants.

Rajasthan CSR Awards

Cairn Oil & Gas has won prestigious ‘Rajasthan CSR Award 2018’ for our CSR initiative – Jeevan Amrit (Safe Drinking Water Project) under the WASH category (Water, Sanitation & Hygeine) in 2nd Rajasthan CSR Awards held on February 06, 2018 organized by Government of Rajasthan. The award was received by Mr. Akhil Agrawal (GM –Finance Controller & Head CSR) along with Mr. Bhanu Pratap Singh (Manager CSR) and Ms. Tanya Dixit (MT – CSR). Also, Mr. Akhil Agrawal participated and augmented discussions on best practices on Water Conservation for discovering impact driven solutions with suggestions to create more impact through state run project ‘Mukhya Mantri Jal Swavlamban Abhiyan’.The Rajasthan CSR Awards is an initiative of Government of Rajasthan to encourage companies, foundations and implementing partners to deliver high impacts through CSR initiatives and adopt multi-stakeholder approach leading to excellence in project outcomes.

Knowledge Interventions

Cutting edge technology and best –in-class knowledge interventions are key for a farming sector. In collaboration with Central Arid Zone Research Institute (CAZRI), Jodhpur, a new farming technique was introduced to farmers in our Barmer region. During the demonstration held on February 19, 2018 farmers from our Agri and Dairy project visited the CAZRI facility and learnt about the new techniques to grow fodder beet at Barmer. Fodder Beet which contains high protein and minerals are good for animals and will help in increasing milk production in dairy farming. A farmer in Gudamalani block in Barmer has managed to produce around 300kg of green fodder in just 1000 sq.m area which will in turn help in increasing milk production for dairy farmers.

 

To help boost the development of fodder and use of advanced techniques of agriculture, a farmers’ training was organised for our Dairy and Wadi Farmers on February 21, 2018 at our Nandghar in Lunwa Charnan village. The training was attended by around 100 community members and an interactive session was held by experts from CAZRI.It is worth to note that women, who play the most important role in the preparation of animal feed in villages took an active part in the activity and themselves volunteered to prepare the feed mixture for the demonstration. This event also made use of our Nandghar as a Farmer Resource Center involving community stakeholders across a diverse spectrum.

Pipeline Security Awareness

Our communities in the districts of Barmer and Jalore have greatly benefited through a number of convergent watershed development practices under our Company’s Watershed Development Programme in collaboration with NABARD. A financial inclusion program was organised on the December 28, 2017 at Bhadka village in Barmer in association with NABARD and BAIF to impart knowledge to the local farmers about developing and sustaining financial stability through the effective and efficient utilization of the watershed development programmes. The chief guests on the occasion were Mr. P.K. Pradhan (GM - RBI), Mr. Dinesh Prajapat, District Development Manager (NABARD). During the event, chief guests handed over solar lamps and solar cookers to around 40 families.

Showcasing Our Excellence

Cairn Centre of Excellence ( CCoE) at Jodhpur is our flagship institute imparting skill training and help building an empowered workforce in the region. The institute has in the past been utilized by various security agencies to impart training to their staff including leveraging our infrastructure.  Mr. Anil Paliwal IPS - IG BSF, Rajasthan Frontier along with DIG Mr. K S Rajawat & DIG Mr. Mahesh  C Sharma visited CCoE on January 31, 2018 to understand the programs and facilities to train their staff in welding, automobile and solar programs.  They were extremely impressed by the infrastructure, facilities, and soft skills training provided in the campus.

Empowering Women

Our vocational training programs are designed to enhance the quality of life and to make people economically self -sufficient. Following this approach, under PAHONCH program, on February 07, 2018 a completion ceremony for the 2nd  batch of Tailoring and Beauty Parlour classes was conducted where 64 adolescent girls & ladies benefitted. All these participants were identified for the training on the basis of their willingness to attend the training which will make them confident and empower them to support their family needs without being dependent on other members of the family.  During the ceremony, they were presented with participation certificate by Mr. Pradeep Savariya Superintendent, Cairn Oil & Gas who also addressed them and delivered a motivational speech for their bright future.

Barmer Unnati Project – A case study

Under the Barmer Unnati project, Rajat has been able to enhance his livelihood from the training and support received from the Carin Agri Fellow (CAF) program. Rajat was selected under CAF program and attended 3 month long training at the Bikaner Institute of Agri Business Management (IABM), Bikaner. The first phase of the training focused at providing an overview of all livelihood practices linked to the agricultural economy. In the next phase, Rajat acquired training on dairy development at National Dairy Research Institute, Karnal.  The final phase of field level training with our partner agency – Technoserve. His dairy business which is in the third year now, has 15 cows and 4 buffaloes which enables him to supply 150 liters of milk each day with an annual income of Rs 2 Lakhs a month. He has also been able to venture into other fields of farming. With the dream and ambition of packaging milk of his own brand name ‘Rajat’, he is a shining example of hard work and our commitment to improve the livelihoods of people in our areas of operations.

Certificate of Appreciation - PAHONCH

Our flagship project PAHONCH was recognised with a ‘Certificate of Appreciation’ during the 2nd edition of GCSRA (Gujarat Corporate Social Responsibility Authority) CSR Awards, 2018 held on February 23, 2018. On behalf of the company, the certificate was received by Mr. Ashish Gupta and Mr. Avinash Rawal. The Jury of GCSRA CSR Awards, 2018 appreciated our PAHONCH program and acknowledged the impact created by our project. GCSRA is a Government body and all the awarded projects have gone through a rigorous selection process by an eminent jury through a 3-tier assessment process.

Our Chairman while acknowledging the strengths and commitment of IBM, emphasised the importance of working with a partnership mindset and investing time in the relationship to gain fruitful value.

Building blocks for future Vedanta

Vedanta has been in the forefront of identifying and nurturing young talent from various campuses. Vedanta Leadership Development Program (VLDP) is one such program to build organisational capability for the future by bringing on board best-in-class young talent from premier colleges in India and abroad. Mr. Praveen Purohit from Corporate HR Team visited one of the most premier management institutes in our country – IIM Calcutta for a Pre Placement Talk Session for our flagship VLDP Program. The session was held on February 01, 2018 which was attended by over 80 PGP 2nd   year students from the campus. They had an opportunity to understand our vision, value, best people practices, learning & development programs and also the immense opportunities that are available across our business locations. The session concluded with a Q&A session and many students expressed their desire to be part of our growth story.

Listening to fascinating stories from our grandmothers is a childhood memory most of us cherish.  These stories created the foundation of our socio cultural value system With the gradual breakup of the extended families, urbanization opportunities for storytelling at homes have faded away in recent times. Mrs. Kiran Agarwal has endeavoured to create animated films which drive important life lessons in an entertaining manner. Mrs Agarwal’s inspiration to create these films came from her own personal experience of storytelling to the young ones. This initiative is a part of her personal journey of give back to the communities with the focus on the young impressionable mind.

Chairman Sustainability Award

Cairn Oil and Gas business has been declared as the winner of Chairman Sustainability Award for H2-2017 on the basis of its excellent performance on HSE and Sustainability for the period July-December 2017. Cairn Oil and Gas was the runner up during H1-2017. Chairman Sustainability Award is evaluated on the basis of five HSE and Sustainability parameters – Performance, Leadership, Risk Management, Stakeholder Engagement and Sustainability Improvement. Vedanta Aluminium Lanjigarh was declared the second best for this cycle. Vedanta Corporate HSE team collects the required data for each period for necessary evaluation and announcing results.

Chairman Business Award

Chairman Business Award for Q3 FY2017-18 has been awarded to Cairn Ravva & Suvali ExCo as the Winner and TSPL ExCo as the Runner Up. This award is based on the criteria as per Chairman’s Business Award Scheme anchored by the six member committee and involves a two stage process. Some of the salient points of the Winner :Ravva & Suvali : a) Actual Production achieved 100% and Cost achieved 106% of BOA  b) VSAP Score CB : 78%; Ravva: 82%. C) Multiple global awards d) Modified gas lift system e) Preparation of 3 CB/OS-2 wells for drilling . Runner-up TSPL: a) Actual PLF achieved 101% and Cost achieved 93% of BOA b) VSAP score: 70. C) Multiple global awards d) Eliminated electrical fire by replacing underrated switch gear which resulted in no switch gear fire in H2–2017 d) Total savings realized in Q3 was 30.67 mus equivalent to Rs.12 crore from all energy saving projects. Also, as a special mention, Vizag General Cargo Berth (VGCB) unit for their excellent performance by achieving 127% of budgeted volumes dispatch and 84% of BOA cost.
