Yoga Day 2018

All Site Locations

International Day of Yoga is celebrated annually on June 21 since its inception in 2015, declared unanimously by the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). To inculcate a habit of healthy living among the employees, Yoga & meditation programs were organised at offices and site locations including Mangala Processing Terminal (MPT), Raageshwari Gas Terminal (RGT), Ravva, Bhagyam, Suvali, Bhogat and Viramgam Gas Terminal (VGT).


Employees participated in various asanas and learned various exercises and poses that must be practiced daily to achieve physical and mental well-being.


In VGT, more than 75 employees & contractors participated in ‘laughter yoga’ and yoga session by yoga experts, Mr Jitu Bhai Pandya and Mr M N Nehru. Across all other locations employees participated enthusiastically

World Environment Day 2018

All Site Locations

World Environment Day, celebrated worldwide on June 5, is an annual United Nations’ event to encourage worldwide awareness and action for protection of our environment. Each World Environment Day is organised around a theme that focuses attention on a particularly pressing environmental concern. The theme for 2018 ‘beat plastic pollution’ is designed to urge all people to reject single-use plastic items. The occasion was celebrated with fervor across office and site locations including Mangala Processing Terminal (MPT), Raageshwari Gas Terminal (RGT), Bhagyam and Ravva.


In MPT, a ‘Nature Walk’ was organised on June 3, 2018 in the Gaangli Forest area in Barmer district. Mr Vikram Keshari Pradhan (IFS), District Forest Officer along with his team took Cairn employees and contractors for bird sightings and explained unique aspects of different bird and animal species. On the occasion, a mass plantation drive was organised at Central Warehouse, Project Fabrication Yard and Mangala well. An awareness sessions was also conducted at MPT, Aishwariya Well Pad-8, Central Polymer Facility (CPF), Bhagyam and N field on harmful effects of single use plastic and how they could contribute to reduce plastic waste generation.


RJON South Field (RGT) organized an awareness programme among the staff and contractors on the effect of plastic pollution and requirement of effective waste management. After the programme, eco-bags were distributed among the Cairn employees and contractors followed by a ‘tree plantation’ drive at RGT and RDG.


Dr. C Kaliyaperumal, Director MOEF & CC graced the World Environment Day celebrations at Ravva. During the function, Installation Manager Mr D Muthukumarasamy insisted on developing the environment and bio diversity around Ravva Onshore Terminal with a vision of a ‘Green Future’. The event was followed by a ‘Beach cleaning’ and ‘Tree Plantation’ drive across the area of operation.


SPE Workshop on Digitalisation

SPE (Society of Petroleum Engineers) Workshop on Digitalisation was held in Bengaluru on June 6-8, 2018. Cairn Oil & Gas was the platinum sponsors for the event with a significant presence in the workshop with 15 attendees across various functions. Mr Anand Laxshmivarahan R - Chief Digital Officer delivered the key note address. Mr Sanjay Chakraborty - DGM-Data Services and GeoIT steered the discussion on ‘Big Data Analytics’ along with three oral presentations by Ms Sudeshna Basu, Mr Subhash Chandra Bankey and Mr Gomeet Pant and five e-poster presentations by Mr Satyajit Dash, Mr Aasheesh Gupta, Mr Atul Patni, Ranjan Sinha and Ms Soma Koner. Our team’s effort was recognised with two awards: Winner – Best presentation: Gomeet Pant (Cyber Security – An Imperative for digital journey) & Runners up – Best e-poster: Satyajit Dash (Geospatial Technology – Driving location based decision making in E&P lifecycle).

World Environment Day

Barmer, Rajasthan

On 5th of June, Cairn CSR Team celebrated World Environment Day at multiple locations across Barmer. A cycle rally saw the participation of 150 cyclists from different backgrounds including school and college going students, responsible citizens, members of the enforcement services and senior citizens. The rally was flagged off by Collector - Barmer district, District Forest Officer - Barmer, Additional District Magistrate - Barmer, Commandant – BSF, Barmer and CM & HO, Barmer.


Cairn’s initiative to mitigate the effect of the biggest menace of the day – single use plastic was launched during a public meeting at the Town Hall on Environment Day. The event was attended by ~300 people, wherein cloth bags were distributed in collaboration with the Barmer municipality. These bags, will further be distributed to a wide variety of stakeholders to end the excessive use of plastic which ends up choking water lines, contaminating them and destroying the natural ecosystem.


Environment day event was organized at Jastaniyo ki Dhani, Bhadkha village under Bhagyam operational area and saw the participation of ~150 beneficiaries from the agriculture and natural resource management programmes. The event was attended by DDM – NABARD, Chief Scientist – Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Gudamalani, Bhagyam team. Five ‘Paryavaran Premis’ from the panchayat were recognized for their ecological efforts. Apart from the sessions taken by the guests, one tree sapling and one cloth bag each was distributed to those who attended.


International Yoga Day Celebrations

Barmer and Suvali

The Cairn CSR Team successfully organised International Yoga Day celebrations at Barmer & Sanchore on June 21, 2018 in collaboration with local authorities. Chief Guest of the Barmer event, Mr Amara Ram Chaudhary - Hon. Revenue minister, Govt. of Rajasthan and, Mr Dev Ji Patel- MP Jalore & Sirohi appreciated Cairn’s efforts to promote health and wellbeing.


~5000 people participated in an hour long Yoga protocol session which ended with a laughter therapy session. School students performed yoga with music. CEC trainees, NCC & NSS cadets volunteered for the event. Vedanta Cairn Caps, cloth bags, energy drinks, safe water, free health check-ups were provided to participants. ~15 stalls were held from different departments and organisations such as Om Shanti Mission.


The event witnessed participation from key government dignitaries, local administration, armed forces, public representatives, army officials and community members.


In Suvali, Yoga Day was celebrated with school children at Suvali Primary School. Mr Manoj Thakkar - DGM, Projects, Cairn explained the health benefits of making Yoga a daily practice. Mr Bipin Bhai Patel – Deputy Sarpanch and Ms Varshaben - School Principal along with Cairn representative Mr Kiran Kumar attended the celebrations.


Mukhya Mantri Jal Swawalamban Abhiyan

Barmer, Rajasthan

Cairn was awarded the title of the highest donor at a felicitation ceremony organised to recognise the donors of Mukhya Mantri Jal Swavlamban Abhiyan (MJSA) by Mr Shivaprasad Nakate - District Collector, Barmer and Mr M L Nehra - CEO, Zilla Parishad, Barmer at Kailash International Hotel on June 11, 2018. The Collector appreciated Cairn’s CSR efforts for water conservation and continued support under 3rd phase of MJSA. Mr Bhanu Pratap Singh, Manager - CSR, received the certificate of appreciation and trophy from the Collector at the ceremony. Cairn emerged as the highest donor in all 3 phases of the project.


Barmer Unnati Programme


A workshop on enhancement of crop production of pulses in a desert region was held on June 6, 2018 for 50 farmers from villages in Bhagyam and Aishwariya fields. Mr M L Nehra - CEO Zila Parishad and Dr D Kumar - Principal scientist, CAZRI, Dr Pagaria- Head, Krishi Vigyan Kendra conducted the sessions. Farmers were provided CAZRI’s agriculture implement (KASSI) & pulse crops that are climate-smart, withstand weather variability, require less water, enrich soil, provide nutrition for humans, livestock, soil in arid & semi-arid regions. This pulse crop farming technique will reach up 500 farmers with 10 farmers linked with each demonstration plot.


Dairy Farmers’ Meet

Jalore, Barmer

Under Barmer Unnati program, a ‘Dugdh Utpadak Sammelan’ (Dairy Farmers’ Meet) was held on May 30, 2018 at Mooli Dhani in Jalore District for ~150 dairy farmers. A plan for establishment of a bulk milk chiller was announced at the village. Eight highest performing dairy cooperatives were felicitated. The event was supported by Mr Hanuman Choudhary-SURE, Dr D Kumar- Ex-scientist, CAZRI, Mr Hem Singh & Mr Purra Ram from Jasmool Dairy.


Nandghar Orientation

Barmer, Rajasthan

On May 30, 2018, the CSR team organized an engagement activity wherein members of the armed forces stationed at Jalipa Military Station and 80 of their children visited the Bheelo ki Basti Nandghar and interacted with community members while presenting them with clothes, toys and souvenirs.


The support of community members of Bheelo ki Basti, Jalipa military station team and CSR officials including Prahalad Singh - Assistant Manager and Tushar M Rikkal-Assistant Manager made the visit memorable.

Ravva, Andhra Pradesh

On May 31, 2018 District Collector Mr Kartikeya Misra along with Shri Anandarao, MLA, Joint Collector and his team visited S’Yanam village and praised the overall CSR activities including the health intervention at the local hospital.


Engagement with Armed Forces

Barmer, Rajasthan

Cairn CSR Team organised a health awareness & medical camp for ~250 children under the Jalipa Military Summer Camp on May 28, 2018 covering physical health examination including dental and eye check-up. Cultural activities, prize distribution and distribution of sanitary kits aided awareness on personal hygiene. Children were provided with health cards while their families also received free health checkups & medicines.


Dr P.C. Deepen - Senior Medical Officer, Dr. Sej Karan-Dentist and Eye care team from Barmer Jan Sewa Sammiti as well as the medical team from Dhara’s MHV were responsible for providing quality services during the camp. Army officials namely Col. Sourbh Singh, Lt. Col. Abhisekh Diwedi, Captain Prime Panda, Captain Sachand, Captain Shivam Schhan, Nayab Srawan Kumar, Nayab Rajendra Singh, Mr Subhas Ola, Mr Vijay Singh etc. along with Cairn CSR officials including Prahlad Singh Bhati and Tanya Dixit were instrumental in making the programme a success.


World Menstrual Day

Jodhpur, Rajasthan

The Cairn CSR team marked the occasion of World Menstrual Day on May 28, 2018 by promoting menstrual hygiene awareness among rural population across 75 operational villages. An inaugural event was organized at Panchayat Bhawan, Karola in collaboration with Wockhardt Foundation, partner agency- Mobile Health Van. These vans are equipped with affordable sanitary napkins priced between INR 10-15 for a pack of eight pads. Auxiliary nurse midwives from the Government and Cairn MHVs conducted interactive sessions and demonstrations to promote the use of sanitary napkins.

Dhandhuka, Ahmedabad

The Cairn CSR Team was felicitated with a ‘Certificate of Appreciation’ by the Honorable Chief Minister of Gujarat, Mr Vijay Rupani, for our partnership in the Sujalam Sufalam Jal Sanchay Abhiyan Campaign. Mr Nishant Kumar - Senior Manager, Community Development Officer-CSR and Mr Avinash Rawal – Manager, CSR received the certificate which recognised Cairn’s efforts in supporting the canal cleaning & pond digging work at Hansalpur near Viramgam terminal.


Community Stakeholder Meeting

Pipeline area, Gujarat

A stakeholder engagement session was organised on May 30, 2018 at Bevta Village, Banaskantha District, Gujarat. This included a meeting with beneficiaries of Jeevan Amrit Program along with Community Awareness session on Pipeline Safety where flyers in the regional language were disseminated.


Mr G V Choudhary, Cooperative Chairman presented a Certificate of Gratitude to Mr Nishant Kumar– Community Development Officer, CSR to recognise Cairn’s CSR initiatives for community development at the village level.

Supporting Education

Suvali, Gujarat

For the past 15 years, Cairn has initiated various activities to promote education at Suvali village. CB/OS-2 team sponsored 13 computers for Nav Chetan Vidyalaya school’s computer lab, which was inaugurated on May 29, 2018 by Mr Viresh Patel - Installation Manager along with key community stakeholders - Mr Bahubhai, Jungham Sarpanch, school principal and other panchayat members.


Recently, a school uniform and educational kit distribution programme was organised on June 21, 2018 for school children. The event was appreciated by the Sarpanch - Neenaben Rathod, and School Principal - Varshben. Cairn was represented by Manoj Thakkar- DGM Projects and Kiran Kumar- HR Manager in the event.


Donate Blood. Save Lives.

S’Yanam, Andhra Pradesh

On the occasion of World Blood Donor Day (WBDD) on June 14, 2018, Ravva JV employees and contract workmen reiterated their commitment to save lives through voluntary blood donation. A total 46 donors participated in the blood donation camp. All participants were issued a certificate by the Government Blood Bank, Amalapuram.


World Environment Day

With the theme of 'Beat Plastic Pollution', World Environment Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm at Vedanta Jharsuguda. The day started off with a massive tree plantation ceremony anchored by ‘Team Environment’. More than 400 employees and partner organizations gathered under the cloudy skies to plant many saplings. Various easy to adopt messages like saying no to the grocer who hands a plastic bag, picking up any polythene that we find lying around, stop people from littering. All such small steps will go a long way towards curbing pollution by plastic.

Subhalaxmi Cooperative

Vedanta Ltd. Jharsuguda’s flagship CSR livelihood project, Subhalaxmi Cooperative, felicitated meritorious matriculation children of its women members at the Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Jharsuguda on June 21, 2018. The students each received mementos and cash prizes at the ceremony, as part of the cooperative’s welfare scheme ‘Subhalaxmi Mahila Kalyan Panthi’. The scheme also serves other needs of its women members like aiding expecting mothers, providing loan waivers for families of the deceased, assistance for funeral expenses etc. Since the fund’s inception in 2013, a total of 190 students have been felicitated under the Kalyan Panthi scheme, with cash prizes amounting to 4.93 lakh rupees. The felicitation programme also highlighted the importance of higher education.

TSPL wins Power Plant Performer 2018

Industrious efforts of TSPL were acknowledged and appreciated at Thermal Power Operations & Maintenance Conference – EXPO Awards held at New Delhi from June 7-8, 2018 in recognition of its operational performance. TSPL won the Power Plant Performer 2018 Coal Category Award hosted by Mission Energy Foundation at a glittering ceremony organized at New Delhi. Mr CN Singh, COO TSPL spoke on O&M challenges as one of the panelists while Mr Ashwani Kumar, Head Technical Services received the award on behalf of TSPL.

HZL wins  SEEM National Energy Management Award

Hindustan Zinc - Captive Power Plant at Chanderiya Smelting Complex won Gold award in SEEM National Energy Management Awards 2017, under the category ‘Industries CPP’. SEEM National Energy Management Awards 2017 (SNEMA) ceremony was held in New Delhi on May 25, 2018. The jury identified the best performing industries, facilities and individuals in various categories from 184 nominations and recognized the same. The award is presented to those companies and/ or individuals who are putting their best efforts towards improving energy efficiency, thereby supporting India’s journey towards climate change and sustainable development.On behalf of Hindustan Zinc, from CPP, Mr Nishant Somwanshi, Mr Prashant Gaur (KPS) and Mr S Y Lee (KPS) received the award.
