A famous quote says “Vision is the art of seeing the invisible”. True to this statement, our Chairman led a two day workshop to put a roadmap to achieve the vision of contributing to 50% of India’s crude oil and gas production. The workshop was organised in Jaipur on December 20-21, 2017 and was attended by Chairman Mr. Anil Agarwal, Vice Chairman Mr. Navin Agarwal, Group CEO Mr. Kuldip Kaura, Cairn Ex Co and 130 + Cairn employees from Gurgaon and site locations. The two day workshop saw in-depth discussions, presentations from 17 different teams across verticals to put together an action plan to achieve the vision set by our Chairman. The workshop was a great opportunity for all the participants to have an open discussion with the leadership team and set the direction for the next level of growth for the company.

The 11th edition of The International Fire & Security Exhibition and Conference (IFSEC), the country’s largest commercial, Government Security & Fire Safety Exhibition, Conference & Awards was held at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi from December 6-8, 2017. Cairn Oil & Gas security team won the runners-up trophy in ‘Security Training & Awareness’ category during the award ceremony. This is second time in a row, Cairn having won the winner’s trophy, last year we were awarded in the category of ‘Technology Implementation’ in the security domain. IFSEC India brings together leading international and domestic players, policy makers, and technocrats on a common platform to engage and discuss contemporary issues related to security & safety such as the development of smart cities and the Internet of Things (IoT).

Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE), Barmer Section was graced with the visit of Mr. Jose G. Flores under the SPE Distinguished Lecturer Series. Mr.Jose is an independent consultant and hails from Lima in Peru, South America. With over 30 years of oil and gas experience, Jose has been an expert in reservoir and production enhancement and strategies to increase recovery factor for heavy oil and mature fields and has previously worked with Schlumberger and Oxy. The event was organised at Mangala Processing Terminal OB premises and was attended by more than 100 professionals, with representation from number of departments within Cairn and personnel from service companies as well. The topic of the presentation was ‘Developments in Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) for the era of low oil pricing’ being very relevant to the current focus and the vision of Cairn. The event received a very positive feedback from all the attendees. The event was hosted by the Section Chairperson Mr. Kannan, Director Mr. J.P. Mishra, Secretary Mr. Pranay Srivastava and Membership Chairperson Mr. Ranjan Trivedi.

Care for our people and our communities has been one of the key pillars that have guided our growth. In line with this thought, Cairn partnered with Pink City Half Marathon in Jaipur which was held on December 24, 2017. As part of the CairnFit wellness program, employees from Gurgaon and Rajasthan locations participated actively in the marathon. Espousing causes such as the ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ and ‘Swacch Bharat Abhiyaan’, this international half marathon event was organised by the NGO - GT Health Care Trust and was attended by senior level dignitaries from the state and national level. This was the second edition of Pink City Half Marathon and the event saw great participation from various professional runners across the globe. The event was widely covered in press and was broadcasted live on ETV Rajasthan.

Project Shrishti is a green initiative anchored by the Land Team of Cairn Oil & Gas.The project is a testimony to our commitment towards green initiatives which is aimed not just to ensure compliance but goes well beyond to help in promoting bio-diversity, turning desert into forest, providing livelihood support and reducing carbon footprint. With this green belt development goal, in 2013 Land team had taken initiative to develop 13 hectare green belt on Gram Panchayat deserted land near Sanchore city in Jalore district and have planted around 5000 plants of different species. Today in 2017 after lot of dedication and efforts, the same has been converted into well sustainable forest. On December 15, 2017 this well-developed plantation site was handed over to District Administration of Jalore District which was well appreciated by all administration officials.
Also we have developed around 1500 trees as part of our Chokhla Green Belt Plantation “HARA GAON - HARIYALI DHARTI”, “PED LAGAON – DHARTI SUDH BANAO” initiative and handed over to local Government School. The initiative has been greatly welcomed and recognized by of the school staffs, villagers and others.

To mark World AIDS day, many knowledge sharing and awareness sessions were organised across site locations. In Raageshwari Gas Terminal (RGT), Installation Manager Mr .S. Krishnamurthy addressed the employees and contractor workforce. Company Medical Officer spoke on the misconceptions associated with the disease. An oath taking ceremony was also conducted for employees and contract workforce stating that they will not discriminate against any member with HIV positive condition and take steps to rehabilitate them. se
In Viramgam Gas Terminal (VGT) sessions started with pledge taking ceremony in which all employees and contractor staff participated in full attendance. A red ribbon, the universal symbol of AIDS awareness was distributed to all and an awareness session was conducted by Dr. Abhi Modi about Aids current scenario, cause, prevention & other relevant information.
In CB/OS-2, similar kind of activities were conducted, where Installation Manager Mr. Viresh Patel and Mr. V Mahesh, Corporate PSCM team addressed the gathering and participated in pledge and signature campaign.

Our team members from Ravva and Suvali shared our best practices on ‘Alarm Management’ during their presentation in the ‘Asset Integrity and Safety Workshop in E&P Sector’ conducted by OISD in OIDB Bhavan, Noida on December 4-5, 2017. Mr. C.Praveen Nagenderan, Senior Engineer Production – Ravva Operations and Mr. P.A. Joseph, Senior Engineer Production – CB/OS2 Operations delivered presentation on the topic of “Operationalisation of Alarm Management”. Presentation was about implementation and operationalisation of Alarm Management in Ravva and Suvali plant. Suvali plant is a typical example for the implementation and operationalization of Alarm management with the aid of software and demonstrated various features of the software which accelerated desired results.Special features of the alarm management project in Ravva were highlighted which comprises of implementation of Alarm Management with in-house capabilities i.e. absence of renowned alarm management software available in the market and zero direct cost implications in the execution of the project.

Planning and being prepared for an eventuality is an important step in mitigating risk. Towards this direction, a safety mockdrill was conducted at Ravva site on December 10, 2017. The Organisation for Counter Terrorist Operations (OCTOPUS) team of Government of Andhra Pradesh along with police team conducted recce and mock drill at our site. The mockdrill scenario was a terrorist breach at our living quarters with a hostage situation and some causalities. The operation named ‘Godavari’ commenced at 2000 Hrs with a team of 40 personnel from OCTOPUS swung into action as per the briefing and finally the operation was concluded at 2250 Hrs with required personnel being released from the captive situation. A debriefing was carried out to capture the learnings. Local police were also present and assisted the OCTOPUS team as required.

For the natural resource industry, securing an adequate water supply continues to remain a key challenge. We address the key challenge of accessing water by using the resources more judiciously and through recycling and reuse. As part of Mangala Processing Terminal (MPT) development, a rain water harvesting cum recharge pond of 72000 CuM has been developed to cater the surface run-off rain water from MPT area, which is now a habitat of various migratory ducks, storks and smaller water-birds. All these birds can now be seen frequenting this pond.

Recognition for our safety practices always sets new benchmarks and motives to reach even greater heights. Our Mangala, Bhagyam and Aishwariya (MBA) fields have received four awards and one common award for MBAR during the 31st Mines Safety Week (Ajmer Region) on December 24, 2017 held at Kota, Rajasthan. Last month Directorate General of Mines Safety (DGMS) promoted safety competitions and safety audit for the mining industry in the Ajmer region. As an outcome, the following awards were received for MBAR operations: MBAR – First place - Overall Firefighting; Mangala – Second place - Publicity, Propoganda & Housekeeping; Bhagyam – Second place – Operation & Maintenance; Bhagyam – Second place - Overall Performance; Aishwariya – Second place – Statutory. Congratulation to entire MBA team for their sustainable performance towards safety standards.

Prince Aladdin, Princess Jasmine and the Genie came calling on an ‘Arabian Night’ theme family get together at Cairn on December 8, 2017. The Cairn family day was an evening of fun filled activities for every age group. Cairn and Vedanta corporate employees had a great evening with their fellow colleagues and their families. There was a special kids zone called ‘The Great Indian Circus’ to enthral the little ones and performances from LED drummers, dance troupe and singer Shaadab Faridi captivated the audience with their high voltage performance. Also, it was the time to recognise and reward Cairn employees as part of Cairn Award For Excellence (CAFÉ). As many as 113 awards were given out in 7 categories this year including ‘Achievements in Arts/Science/Sports’. This time, V-Connect Awards like GEM, Round of Applause and Torchbearer were also announced during the award ceremony.

The biggest gesture as a human being we can give to others is donation of blood to someone in need. To show our commitment towards society, Cairn organised 2nd Blood Donation Camp in medical centre at the Bhogat Terminal on December 14, 2017 under the CSR Volunteering programme. In total 50 members including employees, contractors and community members donated blood during the camp. Doctors and officials from Bhavsinhji General Hospital presented an ‘Appreciation Certificate’ to Cairn Vedanta for the help and support for this noble cause.

Soil is an essential resource and a vital part of the natural environment from which most of the global food is produced. Despite the essential role soil plays in human livelihood, there is worldwide increase in degradation of soil resources due to inappropriate management practices. Therefore, on the occasion of ‘World Soil Day’ on the December 5, 2017, Cairn organised an awareness programme at the Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Barmer to inform farmers about the degrading condition of soil due to urbanization, climate change and excessive use of fertilizers and chemicals. The programme was also a step towards bringing farmers from different parts of region together to discuss and deliberate the need for soil conservation. A total 70 farmers attended and benefitted from the programme.

World Aids Day is observed on 1st December every year since 1988 to raise awareness of the disease caused by the spread of HIV. On this occasion, Cairn organised an awareness programme at Barmer and Suvali to sensitise people and share information and knowledge on prevention of HIV & AIDS. Mr. Manoj Jain, Additional Director, Women & Child Government of Rajasthan was the chief guest at the Barmer event.
In Suvali, the project team organised knowledge sharing session, red ribbon tag activities for local communities at Junagam & Rajgiri village involving youth and PHC staff to create awareness among community through our NGO Partner Hindustan Latex Family Planning Promotion Trust (HLFPPT).

Local communities especially women in rural villages lack the accessibility and benefits of any vocational schemes and programs. Keeping this in mind, Cairn, as part of CSR commitment launched beauty parlour training course. This vocational course will help to become economically independent and will also support their family. More than 20 young women of Rajkot, Jamnagar and Morbi district are enrolled in the course.

Mr. Chain Singh & Mr. Ashok Kumar. (Road Safety Team) emphasised the objectives of Road Safety Campaign to all of the participants. Many stakeholders including Road Safety Team, Gram Sevak, Sarpanch, Vice Sarpanch and people of the village participated in the event.

The 3rd Corporate Excellence Award organised by Odisha Cultural Foundation conferred Mr. Abhijit Pati as the ‘Best CEO of the Year 2017’. The event which was held at Bhubaneshwar on December 17, 2017 saw participation of over 200 dignitaries of the state and different corporates. The award ceremony had 15 categories for Corporate Excellence in various fields of which Mr. Pati was appreciated for his significant contribution to the industrial development of the state of Odisha by Shri Surya Narayan Patro, Cabinet Minister for Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare and Cooperation Department. He was also acknowledged for his efforts in driving the aluminium revolution in India as the CEO of Vedanta Limited, Jharsuguda, where his professional acumen and leadership has resulted in nurturing one of the largest producers of primary aluminium in India.
