National Safety Week
National Safety Day with the theme of “Reinforce positive behavior at the workplace to achieve safety and health goals” was celebrated from March 4-11, 2018 with great vigour and passion across offices and site locations.
In Ravva, Chief Guest - Mr. Ganesh N. Srinivasan (SBU Projects Head) along with Installation Manager, Mr. D. Muthukumarasamy and Instrumentation Manager, Mr.M.Sridharan shared their safety messages with employees, contract work force and others. Many of the employees came forward and shared their safety day messages and experiences. This further builds on the ownership in safety which has pivot of Ravva's safety stride for last 24 years.
In Raageshwari Gas Terminal, the event started with flag hoisting by Installation Manager Mr.Krishnamurthy. He addressed the gathering of employees and contract workforce and administered a safety pledge to all participants. The week long activity included PPE wearing competition, skit show, safety posters and slogans competition, CPR & electrical shock treatment competition and incident case study competition. Celebrations concluded with a prize distribution ceremony on March 11, 2018.
In Suvali, the week was observed with activities like skit show, drawing competition and more. Mr. Pandidurai, Installation Manager addressed the gathering and also administered a ‘safety oath’ to all employees.

The vision of delivering 50% of India’s oil and gas production requires effort at multiple levels. One of the key drivers in this pursuit will be the continuous enhancement of technical knowledge and excellence in our operations. Capturing all this, the 6th Annual Cairn Technical Forum was held on March 21-22, 2018 at Gurgaon. The theme of this year’s edition was ‘Delivering Business Excellence through Innovation and Technology’. This edition included 6 sessions on 6 different sub-themes, 54 poster presentations, 39 oral presentations and 2 key note address spread over two days. The forum saw active participation of employees from all internal functions. All the sessions were shared ‘live’ on Workplace by Facebook – One Vendata to enable reach to all employees across various locations of Cairn.

A disaster preparedness ensures a well –coordinated set of actions which help to mitigate the effects of a potential disaster. In this regard, a Pollution Response Exercise was conducted at Kakinada on March 13, 2018. The aim of the exercise was to improve awareness among various agencies regarding procedures to be adopted for pollution control at sea, as well to foster co-ordination between various participating agencies. Ravva Onshore Terminal shared the production support vessel M/s Mahananda and oil spill response equipments along with Indian Coast Guard, Kakinada Sea Ports Limited and other oil handling agencies. Preparedness on Tier-1 spills of our Ravva Operations was well appreciated by Indian Cost Guard (PRT East). As the eco sensitive areas in the east coast gaining national and international attention and Korangi mangrove forests are under consideration as UN heritage, it is emphasised for better preparation for any spill incidents by mutual aid partners.

Excellence in Sustainability – Ravva
Our sustainable development journey continues to break new grounds and unlock immense value for us and our stakeholders. The sustainability performance is monitored by the Company’s board through its Sustainability Committee and Executive Committee. The initiatives are measured through Vedanta’s Sustainability Assurance Programme (VSAP), an annual sustainability risk assurance tool which assesses compliance with our sustainability framework, identifies any gaps and takes steps to address these gaps. This year during the sustainability performance verification, Cairn Oil and Gas stood first in the assurance scores. Out of that, Ravva Onshore Terminal & Offshore facilities and Raageshwari Gas Terminal were declared as the topper of the batch with 84% rating. Ravva Asset consecutively stood first for last 2 years in a row. This is result of a collective team work, meticulous planning and organising the resources effectively towards our sustainable goals.

Festival of colours ‘Holi’ was celebrated with great enthusiasm and positivity across offices and locations. At Raageshwari Gas Terminal and Mangala Processing Terminal Holi celebrations started on the night before Holi with a Holika Dahan where employees gathered and performed rituals in front of the bonfire. On the next day all employees participated and enjoyed the carnival of herbal colours This festival adorned everyone in a riot of colours. In Ravva and Suvali too, the celebrations were upbeat with much joy and vigour.

#PressforProgress, this year's theme for International Women’s Day on March 8, 2018 emphasised upon a call-to-action to press forward and progress gender parity. Offices and site locations across the organisation celebrated the spirit of womanhood. At Gurgaon office, a unique workshop on diversity ‘Mars Venus Workshop’ was conducted where in many of the senior leaders participated and addressed the employees in detail on the various diversity measures adopted by the organisation.
In Raageshwari Gas Terminal (RGT) a get-together was organised to felicitate women employees at site. Mr.Krishnamurthy- Installation Manager, addressed the gathering and appreciated women employees for their ‘Can-do’ spirit and contribution to work and society. Security Manager briefed on women security measures and also on road travel safety. Women employees too expressed their views about the safe work culture at RGT.
At Ravva, Women Safety Awareness campaign was organised which also included an awareness session for drivers on women security. A get-together was organised where in many employees appreciated women colleagues achievements & contributions to the society, in particular, to the industrial sector.
In Viramgam Gas Terminal (VGT) activities like interactive session with block level lady police officer on safety & security of women and distribution of safety handbook to all staff were carried out. The safety booklet was launched by Mr. Ashish Gupta (In-charge Field Pipeline Operations – Midstream) in presence of all employees at VGT.
In Suvali too, an interactive session with women employees was organised and Mr. Pandidurai – Installation Manager addressed the gathering .

On March 23, 2018 Aishwariya Field Operations completed 5 years of successful operations. Aishwariya field has crossed over 37 million barrels of oil production as on this momentous day and an impeccable 3.7 million man hours of LTI free operations. This is a result of enthusiastic teamwork, collaboration and leveraging technology to unlock value. Technology application has been a key differentiator in the success story in Aishwariya field, be it the early EOR commissioning and polymer injection achieved in December 2017, or successful commissioning of APWRI, all these have proved our knowledge of the basin and are helping our future growth plan. The recent ‘Five Star’ rating by British Safety Council reinstates our continuous commitment to safety and well-being of our people.

Raageshwari Deep Gas (RDG) Development crossed yet another milestone of 8 years of successful operations on March 26, 2018. The field has delivered 45 BCF of gas and 2.9 MM barrels of stabilized condensate to date. It is also pertinent to note that RDG operations has crossed 9.7 years of LTI free operations clocking 13.31 million man-hours till date. In an event organised to celebrate this milestone, Mr. Jacob Mathew – SBU President RJ Gas Development unveiled the RGT memento and also addressed the employees and contract workforce. Special attraction of the event was safety skit by GETs and contract workforce with a safety message. This was followed by a musical program with in- house talent showcase by GETs and employees.
Kudos to the RGT team on this achievement.

Cairn Oil & Gas was represented at the FICCI (Federation of Indian Chamber of Commerce & Industries) for the National Quality Assessment Award. Mr. Anirban Ghosh, DGM (QA), Cairn Oil & Gas represented the company as an assessor to carry out an assessment audit of a) Haldia Energy Limited (a CESC group company) and (b) Maithon Power Limited (a Tata power group company) in relation to the National award for ‘Manufacturing Quality Excellence for Industries’ for 2017-18. Anirban, being in FICCI core committee for over 6 years has been representing Cairn Oil & Gas in that august forum of assessors. A rich and diversified experience with regard to quality systems, especially on Statistical Process Control was gained during these assessment. These practices can be customized to explore the potential of using it in current operational context of Cairn Oil & Gas.

Driving Sustainable Change
Aligned to the vision of our Chairman towards digitisation and digital India, our organisation invests a lot in creating best in class technology solutions. However, creating such solutions is only part of the story – to drive adoption of these tools requires effective change management skills.
To help enhance change management skills of our IT team, we organised a customised two-day workshop on March 16-17, 2018. Organised in partnership with Management Development Institute (MDI) Gurgaon, the workshop focused aspects such as planning for organisational change, becoming change agents, tools and techniques to drive change effectively and recovering from setbacks during change process. The MDI faculty also used case studies and best practices to help participants understand how to apply these learnings in a practical setting.

Earth Hour, a global initiative started in 2007 has resulted in a good trend for switching off the non-essential lights for one hour. This year, it was observed on March 24 from 8:30 – 9:30pm. All our site teams and other employees observed this initiative towards building awareness of interconnectivity of climate change with biodiversity and people, In Raageshwari Gas Terminal, site teams switched off all non-essential lights and spread the awareness towards this global initiative.

Cairn believes stakeholder engagement is a key part of corporate social responsibility. In this direction, Cairn organised a ‘Stakeholder Engagement’ session to focus on creating channels of continuous engagement with communities in villages across our pipeline network in Gujarat at Sapda (AGI 30) & Khijadiya (AGI 29) Villages on March 17, 2018. During the session Mr. Manu Bhai Savariya, Pipeline Operations interacted with local youth on skill training and personality development courses in presence of the sarpanch from Sapda village. Also, a training programme for Dhori Jhula (traditional art) for 25 girls was introduced along with installation of street lights by Sapda Gram Panchayat.

Training the Farmers
Cutting edge technology and best in-class knowledge interventions are key interventions for a farming sector. Cairn, as part of the Agriculture and Natural Resource Management project, an exposure visit and training was organised at Central Arid Zone Research Institute (CAZRI) Jodhpur for a team of 26 farmers from Barmer on March 12, 2018. The trainings were conducted by resident scientists from CAZRI for two on-field trainings
Farming practices through the use of shade net and poly house – This training encourages use of water efficient drip irrigation and effective use of water vapour conserving structures to boost production of vegetables under controlled conditions and will encourage cultivation of Kaddu (cucurbits), Dhania (coriander) and tomatoes.
Enhanced gond (gum) harvesting from Kumat (Acacia Senegal) trees through use of hormone inducer injection – This training encourages the use of hormonal injections developed by CAZRI to minimise the damage caused to trees through the slash and collect method practiced traditionally. Target of 1000 Kumat trees (Acacia Senegal) has been set for the implementation of this technique.

International Women's Day
International Women's Day (March 8) is a global day for celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The International Woman’s Day theme for 2018 was ‘Press for Progress’. Cairn’s CSR team organised various awareness camps and activity sessions across our areas of operation. Under the PAHONCH initiative, a story writing workshop was organised at Ahmedabad for women & girl child from pipeline operation areas. The workshop encouraged them to write their life stories in the form of a comic book and was exhibited during the celebration and more than 10 girls from the region shared their stories of change.

Imparting skill trainings to women enables them to generate livelihood on which they can start doing something on their own along with routine domestic activities. Cairn’s CSR team launched vocational training courses in Dori Jhuka (traditional craft) and beauty parlor courses from March 2018 at Jamnagar. This skill training would enable them to become economically self-sufficient and independent. Participants will be trained by qualified professional trainer and certificates will be given after completion of the course. More than 44 women have enrolled themselves in the course.

Motivating students is a key intervention in their growth ladder. As part our micro level initiative, Cairn’s CSR team in partnership with Lions Club Viramgam, IOCL Viramgam, K B Shah School, Tripada Gurukulam & Brahmkumari Trust Viramgam, organised a ‘Motivational Speech’ by Professor E V Swaminathan, International Motivational Speaker at M J High School, Viramgam on March 4, 2018. During the session, Prof. E V Swaminathan shared his experience with students and taught them to face the tough challenges of life with smile and happiness. Neary 1500 students and 250 parents attended the session and were provided with a small educational kit.

World Water Day
Water is a precious resource. There is a lot of water all around us but most of this is not freshwater. Approximately 97% of Earth’s water is salt water. That leaves only about 3% that is freshwater for meeting the needs of people, plants and animals. This year on the occasion of World Water Day on March 22, 2018, Cairn observed the day with farmers at Narasar Nadi in Bhagyam field. The function was inaugurated by Dr Pradeep Pagraia - Head, Krishi Vigyan Kendra Barmer, and during the function he explained different ways to conserve rain water with the help of nadi and khadin.

As part of the Swachchta drive to keep surroundings in our areas operation clean, Cairn initiated an excavation of canal around the Ravva plant which took approximately ten days to complete. This clean-up drive would help free flow of rain water which otherwise flood the villages around our plant during monsoons.

BALCO Medical Centre
Dr. Raman Singh, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh, inaugurated Central India’s first world-class cancer facility BALCO Medical Centre (BMC) in Naya Raipur on March 25, 2018. BMC offers ultra-modern, multi-modality diagnostic and therapeutic cancer treatment. BALCO Medical Centre is an initiative of Vedanta Medical Research Foundation (VMRF), a non-profit initiative of Vedanta Resources and Bharat Aluminium Co Ltd (BALCO). The 170-bed tertiary care facility will deliver global standard cancer treatment, primarily serving the populations of Chhattisgarh and Central India. The hospital has been developed with key inputs and advisory from Tata Medical Centre, Kolkata and will look to provide the highest level of patient care in medical, surgical and radiation oncology. Speaking at the inauguration Navin Agarwal, Chairman, Vedanta Ltd, said, “Giving back to the society is a key focus area for us, and the conceptualization of BALCO Medical Centre was through the identification of the lack of cancer care access in Central India. While this is a great occasion, our greater joy will be from tomorrow as we provide affordable world-class cancer treatment to the citizens of Chhattisgarh and Central India.”
11th Quality Convention
The 11th Internal Convention on Quality Concepts (QC, Kaizen, 5S & FIP) was organised from February 21-24, 2018 in BALCO. Altogether 246 teams comprising almost 700 personnel participated in this convention. Apart from a state-of- the-art model exhibition, participations included in the areas such as (a) Quality Circle (b) Kaizen (c) FIP and (d) 5S.Mr.Anirban Ghosh, DGM (QA) from Cairn Oil & Gas was invited as one of the judges along with the external judges from QCFI, Bhilai Chapter. The convention saw participation from across all verticals including the workmen thus embodying a total quality culture in the organisation.
State Safety Award
Vedanta Limited, Jharsuguda has bagged the coveted ‘Best Performance in Accident Prevention for Safety Management & Communication‘for the year 2017 and ‘Best Occupational Health Care’ for the year 2015. At the State Safety Award held on March 10, 2018. Mr. Abhijit Pati, CEO – Vedanta Ltd, Jharsuguda and Ms. Sabita Swain, Head Occupational Health at Jharsuguda represented the company at the ceremony and received the awards. These awards are a testament to the unwavering efforts towards creating a safe and secure environment for the people.
Best Risk Management Practices Award
Hindustan Zinc Limited has received the award for ‘Exporter with Best Risk Management Practices’ during the ECGC Indian Exporters’ Excellence Awards 2017 on March 06, 2018. The award was presented by Mr. Suresh Prabhu - Hon’ble Union Minister of Commerce and Industry to Mr. Vijay Jayarama Murthy – Deputy Chief Marketing Officer and Mr. T.R. Gupta – AVP, Corporate Affairs who accepted the award on behalf of the company. The award ceremony saw participation of over 1590 companies in different categories. ECGC Ltd. has instituted ‘ECGC‐ Indian Exporters’ Excellence Awards 2017’ to recognise the contribution made by India Exporters in building brand India as well as making the Government’s vision of ‘Make in India’ a reality. CSR Leadership Awards
Hindustan Zinc Limited (HZL) has received ET Now CSR Leadership Awards - 2018 in Best CSR Practices Category organised by World CSR Day on February 18, 2018 at Mumbai. On behalf of the company, the award was received by Mr. Vijay Jayarama Murthy – Deputy Chief Marketing Officer from Dr. R.L. Bhatia – Founder, World CSR Day & World Sustainability. Mr. Mukul Bedi – Country Manager, Marketing also gave the presentation on Hindustan Zinc’s various community development initiatives which was well received by the audience. The esteemed jury members of award function especially highlighted and appreciated Hindustan Zinc’s two of the flagship programs – Sakhi and Shiksha Sambal.
The V – Connect program was launched across Vedanta Group as one of a kind anchoring/ mentoring program covering all 12,000 professionals with regular talent stories and anchoring conversations across all the businesses. It was launched in association with AON Hewitt and the key output from this initiative has been to derive enhanced engagement levels from the employees. This initiative has also ensured transparent communication of organizational growth vision and key priorities in our roadmap for being the best in class employer in the industry. To facilitate smooth functioning of the program, a specialized app – “Aon Lead” was introduced. The app allows participants to schedule their connect session; get latest business updates from around the globe; access to articles and videos that focus on effective leadership, skill-building; and participate in quizzes / learning challenges. Till date, more than 5000 conversations have been completed for the employees across Vedanta.
Growth & Leadership Workshops
Vedanta has always aspired to design an organization which is led by our “Leaders from Within”. Identifying internal talent and elevating them to enhanced leadership roles has been the driving factor in our journey of rapid growth. In line with this philosophy, the Group conducts 'Chairman's Internal Growth Workshops' through which 500+ high potential new leaders have been identified till date across various functions in the Group’s businesses, who have taken up significantly elevated roles and responsibilities. Meeting growth aspirations of employees and ensuring internal mobility of high quality talent has been the highlight of this endeavor. The new leaders have been empowered through various key strategic initiatives across the Group and regular feedback sessions have ensured they are in the right track of being the “Leaders of Tomorrow”. Internal Growth Workshops have also enabled the company to reduce lateral hiring significantly for critical roles across the Group in past two years.
Recently the company has launched a pioneering initiative through Workshop model to engage with our ‘Business Partners’ across the Group. It has provided a platform to discuss and derive our roadmap through which our business partners can deliver more impactful contribution to our business.
